About the Author
I never thought I would be a writer. But I knew I loved words early on, Even though I hated writing journal entries which my 7th grade English teacher, Geraldine Pratt made us write, I found that piecing together my thoughts came easy to me.
I went from writing journal entries as an assignment to keeping a daily diary from my early teens. These entries became my place of peace and solace to the extent that a college friend called me out for spending more time writing my entries than I did with others! He was right, but that didn't stop me from writing.
Fast forward to my early 40s when my heart yearned to do more than record events in a diary. I began looking for and seeing writing contests all around me. I submitted a piece for the Deseret News "Christmas I Remember Best" contest, and an Essay competition tied to the 2002 Olympics theme "Light the Fire Within. " From there I met an editor for a local newspaper and began writing "nice stories about nice people doing nice things."
In the midst of all this, I felt prompted to write He Marked the Path: Following the Savior on the Pathway to Peace. I self-published it in 2004.
This led to writing for numerous other publications including the Ensign, LDS Living, the Salt Lake Tribune, and Utah Business.
Things were going well. Very well. Until the recession hit in 2008 when all these freelance opportunities disappeared. Newspapers and magazines no longer wanted to pay for freelance writers; they passed along the assignments I was doing to staff employees.
It was discouraging but it opened up new avenues for me, including a decade-long career teaching junior high French.
I am now retired from teaching and freelance writing and spend my time visiting with family, attending the temple, studying languages, traveling, and sleuthing out a good family history mystery.
I hope you'll join me on this literary adventure. I'd love to have you come along.
