Love at Home

Spiritual Bricks and Morta

by Janine Simons

Hands reach out to touch and hold.  Through a small act, hope is passed from one to another.

It is not in the mighty or the great or the fantastic that lives are restored, but in the simple touch, the nearly unnoticed word or the subtle smile.

Those who struggle in body and spirit can be healed piecemeal by the small yet significant things of the world.  Step by step, smile by smile, bricks of courage and faith and hope are placed one upon the other.  If done regularly and with sincerity, these bricks are cemented together by the mortar of love.

Nothing we may do is more important in this life than to build and fortify those around us.  Brick by brick, in a labor of love we can contribute to form a great foundation of faith in the hearts and souls of our fellow brothers and sisters.

Therefore, let us build up one another.  Let us seek out the touch, the smile, the kind word that will have so much meaning to those in our midst.  And in so doing, our own frame with not fail us.  The miracle of this construction is that the building and the builder are equally strengthened at the same time.  From so little effort will come so much.

We must be ready, always alert to our surroundings. There are buildings in need of repair all around us.  Miracles wait to be performed.  Let us take up our trowel and our board and go to those among us.  Let us seal the drafts, recaulk the windows and replace the broken panes.  One precious dwelling at a time.
